How can I cook a small amount of food in a large crock pot?

I would like to make the clic buffalo chicken dip recipe for a Superbowl gathering tomorrow. It's just family so I'm cutting the usual recipe by 1/2. I've never made the dip before (I just discovered its existence at a party last weekend). The problem is that I have a 6 qt. crock pot and I don't need nearly that volume. I heard that crock pot recipes of this dip are the best so I don't want to use the oven. Can I put a smaller oven safe dish inside my crockpot to hold the dip?
